You will have 20 minutes to plan, write and revise an essay about the topic below. Your response will be judged on how well you develop a position, organize your ideas, present supporting details, and control the elements of standard written English. You should write 200-300 words. Many manufactured food and drink products contain high levels of sugar, which causes many health problems. Sugary products should be made more expensive to encourage people to consume less sugar. Do you agree or disagree?

When ingested in excess of the permitted amount, as is frequently the case in our everyday diet, sugar is without a doubt one of the most hazardous food elements. Many advocate raising the price of sugar-rich foods and beverages to discourage use, and in my opinion, doing so will improve public health. Despite the widespread misconception that sugar is healthy, scientists and nutritionists contend that it is a slow poison and very addictive. Fast food and sugary meals and drinks, such as sweets, ice cream, soft drinks, and sodas, are readily available, inexpensive, and easy to consume. Everyone enjoys those sugary foods and drinks, from young people to the elderly, which is why they have grown to be so well-liked. However, these are linked to obesity and are known to be the root of major illnesses including diabetes and heart disease. The government should put taxes, both directly and indirectly, on those sugary foods to make them costly for the majority of people and so enhance public health because they are linked to so many unforeseen health conditions and fatalities. Additionally, people frequently choose to eat and drink items that are inexpensive and accessible. We can see that there are inexpensive sweet goods everywhere around us if we merely glance at the department stores in the area. Therefore, their prices should be raised through direct and indirect levies in order to limit sugar consumption. People will consume them less and choose healthier alternatives if they are made more expensive. For example, if a nutritious lunch costs ?100 and a sugary junk meal costs ?200, most individuals will choose the healthier and less expensive choice. It will gradually but steadily increase public health and lower medical costs for both the general people and the government. To sum up, raising the tax on sugary foods will result in a number of positive effects and lower healthcare costs. Therefore, it is anticipated that the authority will take action to increase the price of goods that contain sugar.
