With the adaptation of motion-compensated video compression in the 1980s, digital video turned out to be of a higher quality at a lower cost overshadowing the previous sales of analogous videos. But this could again not last longer, and in 1997, with the invention of DVD, the sales of videotape witnessed a plunge. This rate of decrease further escalated with the advent of computer technology, through which digital videos could be captured, stored, edited and transmitted at an extremely low cost by the use of personal computers and smartphones.
