Short Message Service or what we call SMS is the service through which a text travels from one phone to another. Though quite uncommon nowadays, due to the presence of several social networking and messaging sites, the service is considered to be a milestone in the field of technology. As only 160 characters, including spaces, are permitted, thus it has got the name 'short message service'. However, it's important to note that while some phones prevent typing more than 160 characters, others break it into different messages of up to 160 characters.
